Halloween Mixed Media Art Journal Page - Challenge Entry

Hello again.  I cannot believe that it is already All Hollows Eve!  I wanted to share a Halloween art journal page that I finished this morning.  I tried to get it done last night, but I was just too tired after work. I will be entering this art journal page in a few blog challenges which will be listed down below.

I created this art journal page with the following materials: Dylusions Vibrant Turquoise Ink Spray, Dylusions Fresh Lime Ink Spray, Black Soot Distress Paint, Sakura Souffle Markers, Aleene's Tacky Glue, black Sharpie pen, handmade felt star stamp, Cool Grey Kaiserfusion alcohol marker, and scrapbook paper.

I was inspired to create this page when I found an old Martha Stewart Living magazine with this image on the cover.  I scanned the cover and printed out a black and white copy of this image on a heavy weight card stock.  I colored in the owl and pumpkin with turquoise, blue, lime green, and orange Sakura Souffle pens. I added definition to the pumpkin and owl with a black Sharpie pen. I then used Fresh Lime and Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions spray ink to cover the background. I wanted to add distressed looking stars to the background so I cut a star out of felt to use as a stamp.  I used Black Soot Distress Paint to stamp the stars on the background. I then added smaller orange stars to the background with a souffle pen and outlined the black stars. I glued the owl and pumpkin image to journal page with tacky glue. I thought that the page needed a little more oomph so I cut out a witch's hat from scrap paper and added turquoise polka dots. When the hat was dry I glued it down to the journal page.  I outlined the owl image with a grey Kaiserfusion alcohol marker to create dimension. I ended up drawing spider webs on the corners of the page with a sharpie pen to create a nice border around the journal page.  The last thing I did was distress the outer edges of the paper with black distress paint.

I wasn't sure how this art journal page was going to turn out with a blue owl, but I absolutely love it!  I like it so much that I am entering this art journal page in a few challenge blogs.

The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge - Halloween Word Search
I used the words Black, Owl, and Witch from this word search.

Dream In Darkness Challenge
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Throwback
The throwback challenge I chose was from August 2015 - Trio of Colors

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today.  Be sure to enjoy this All Hollows Eve and do not conjure anything up you will regret later! Have a great Friday. ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤

Halloween Mixed Media Box - Challenge Entry

Hello everyone!  I hope all of you had a great weekend.  I finally finished my mixed media Halloween project and thought I would share it with all of you tonight!  I have been working on this project for a few weeks now and am finally finished... just in time for Halloween this week.  I love how this Halloween box turned out and hope you like it too!

I didn't have a lot of money for this project, so I went to Dollar Tree and found a paper photo box to alter. I was not sure how I was going to cover the box, but knew I wanted to use a skull from a broken gravestone decoration I found in my basement.  I also had a partial autumn leaf swag remaining from the wreath I made last month. Other supplies I used include DecoArt acrylic gel medium, DecoArt orange acrylic paint, black soot Distress Paint, Dylusions ink sprays, white Academy Art acrylic paint, DecoArt Media modeling paste, masking tape, various scrapbook papers, Aleene's Tacky Glue, hot glue, fabric netting, fabric flowers, ribbon, spider stickers, and recycled gems.  I literally only spent $1.00 on the entire project!

The first thing I did to create this spooky box was line the inside of the box with striped scrapbook paper. I added orange and purple ink to the stripes to give the interior a grunge appearance. I then used black soot distress paint to distress the edges and corners of the box. Since I will be using this box to hold extra paints and art supplies, I coated the inside with two coats of acrylic gel medium.

Next I covered the exterior of the box with paper.  I decided to use 4 different papers (2 of which were glitter papers) and cut them in strips of various sizes. I then glued the paper stripes around the full exterior of the box. When the glue was dry I put two coats of acrylic gel medium over the papers to prevent the glitter paper from shedding glitter. I absolutely love glitter paper, but really hate the mess! I added a painted masking tape trim around the top of the box. I also distressed the outside edges of the box with black distress paint.  Lastly, I added a grey tag in the label holder that says "31".

After finishing the box, I decided to work on the lid. The first thing I did was line the inside of the lid with black paper. I distressed the inside of the lid with black distress paint to match the inside of the box. I then covered the exterior of the lid with a grungy grey paper.  I sprayed Dylusions ink spray on the cover to add color. I then used black distress paint to distress the lid.  I absolutely loved how the black distress paint captured the wrinkles of the glued down paper. Once the glue and ink was dry I coated the entire lid with acrylic gel medium. Lastly, I added painted masking tape trim around the edge of the lid.

I cut out this skull from a damaged gravestone decoration that I had stored in the basement.  The skull was a bit damaged, so I used modeling paste to fill in some of the damaged areas and smooth out parts of the skull. The paint was pealed off so I used black distress paint and white acrylic paint to repaint the skull. I had a bunch of recycled gems I wanted to add to the piece, and found two gems that fit perfectly in the eye sockets.  I drew cracks on the forehead and added a spider sticker to make this skull extra creepy.

To finish this box, I added a bunch of elements to the cover. I placed a "Wicked 31" note first on the cover along with a few leaves.  After gluing those elements down, I decided to add black fabric mesh to the box cover. I glued down the skull, leaves, and purple ribbon next.  The cover looked good at this point, but I wanted to add some fabric flowers and a few extra sticker spiders. The leaves and fabric flowers were painted with distress paint, acrylic paint, and alcohol markers to match the rest of the box.  In the end I decided to add a couple black fabric covered gems around the skull that looked like arrowheads.

This is the finished box lid. I absolutely love the end result. This box is one of my favorite mixed media pieces to date!

Here are a few more pictures of the finished Halloween box.

Free Tattered Halloween 12"x12" Digital Scrapbook Quick Page

Today was a super busy day for me, so I am having to write this blog post late tonight.  Normally I do post to the blog in the wee hours of the morning, but I am trying to change my schedule and post to the blog during the day.  I used to work second and third shift (which is why I usually stay up so late in the first place), but now I will be working first shift starting tomorrow.  I am a little worried about work tomorrow because I am definitely not a morning person.  It will definitely take some time for me to get used to first shift since I am a night owl. On the bright side though, I have the afternoons and evenings off to work on art. At least I am finally getting back to work and life will be returning to normal for me.

The freebie is a 12"x12" Halloween themed scrapbook page in .png format.  This quick page features multiple elements from my Tattered Halloween digital scrapbook kit. This quick page just needs your personal photo to complete.  In order to add a picture to the scrapbook page digitally, you will need to use a photo editing software like Photoshop or My Memories Suite.  Remember, you can click the link to the right of the blog to save $10 off the My Memories Suite software.  This software is one of the easiest to use when it comes to creating digital scrapbook pages and photo books.

To download, simply left click on the image to view in a new window, then right click on the design and select save image as.  You will be able to save the image to your computer to use whenever you like. This free digital scrapbook page is for personal use only and cannot be used in commercially sold crafts.

I hope you enjoy this scrapbook freebie!  If you like this free digital scrapbook page, you can find the both the Tattered Halloween paper pack and scrapbook kit in my Etsy store.  All digital kits are available for sale HERE.

Thanks for stopping by!  Be sure to like my facebook page and share this blog post on social media.  You can also follow the blog via the follow button, e-mail or google+.  Have a great week everyone! ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤

1999 Halloween Throw Back Thursday!

Hello everyone!  I hope all of you are having a fantastic evening.  I literally dug up a special treat for today's throwback Thursday. This drawing was created by me in 1999!  I was a Junior in High School back then and loved drawing gore. I was a very troubled youth at the time due to the unexpected passing of my father.  I wore all black, got my nose pierced, and had a pretty sick attitude back then.  Seeing as how Halloween is only a few weeks away, I thought I would share this gruesome drawing with all of you.  Warning: this image is not for the faint of heart!

This drawing was created on a lime green watercolor background using colored pencils, charcoal pencils, and a black pen.  I remember drawing this horror scene like it was yesterday!  The inspiration came from a fear I have of getting my fingers sliced off.  (Some people are afraid of spiders, I'm afraid of losing my phalanges). I used to have the worst nightmares based on this fear and still dislike the idea of this happening.  In elementary school I had an art teacher who cut his fingers off in an old school paper cutter.  I still get the creeps thinking about it. To this day I have a difficult time using power saws, meat slicers, food processors, and paper cutters.

Besides my fear of being chopped up like a cobb salad, I incorporated a few other disturbing concepts into the drawing.  I purposely made the hand appear bloated so that it looked like my body had been there for a while.  I hate the feeling of abandonment or feeling forgotten, so I wanted to convey the idea that my body has been missing for some time.  Obviously no bloated dead hand is complete without an entourage of feasting maggots and flies.

The reflection in the knife also conveys a personal fear.  I have been deathly afraid of fire my whole life. This fear runs much deeper than any other fear I possess.  I am not a fan of matches, lighters, unattended candles, or even cigarettes.  The idea of being trapped in a burning building  scares the crap out of me.  (I literally want to check all my fire alarms now.)  I still have haunting nightmares about burning alive.  Ironically, I was  named after my grandmother's younger sister who burned alive in a devastating fire.  (It wasn't until my brother's funeral last month that I found out my grandmother tried to save her and saw her die.) My grandmother named me as soon as she held me because she felt I was her reincarnated sister. I personally believe in reincarnation and know that my grandmother's intuition was right.

I hope you enjoy tonight's throw back Thursday and are inspired to create a gruesome piece of art.  Please feel free to comment below, subscribe to the blog, and share this post on social media.  Thanks for stopping by and have a good night. ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤

Freebie Friday - Carving Memories Halloween Card

Hello Everyone!  I hope all of you are having a fabulous Friday!  Fall is in the air here in Wisconsin.  We have had some chilly weather here to remind us that winter is on its way.  I absolutely LOVE October and wouldn't want it to be any other month.  For me, there is nothing better than hoodie and hot chocolate weather. The majority of the trees are still green where I live, but by the end of the month they will be bare.  Hopefully I will remember to post pictures of my back yard when the trees really start to change.  I know many of you live in different climates and do not get the chance to experience the same autumn we do here in Wisconsin.

Today I wanted to share with you another printable Halloween card.  I absolutely love sending holiday cards to my close friends and family who live far away.  I find that printing cards and embellishing them myself is much cheaper than buying pre-made cards. The printable cards I create for this blog can be embellished with ribbon, glitter, paper flowers, deli string, or anything you have around the house.  This card image was created using a journaling card from my Tattered Halloween pocket card kit available on Etsy. The kit is $2.00 and available HERE.

This image can be printed out and adhered to a blank card or printed directly onto cardstock. The card image should be formatted to roughly 4"x6". This image can also be used for seasonal decor or embellishing a scrapbook page. To download, simply left click on the image to view in a new window, then right click on the design and select save image as.  You will be able to save the image to your computer to use whenever you like. This card design is for personal use only.

Remember, all three of the Tattered Halloween digital scrapbook kits are available in my Etsy store if you would like to create your own digital scrapbook pages, project life layouts, Halloween party invitations, printable greeting cards, or home decor.  All of the kits are available for sale HERE.

I hope all of you have a fantastic Friday afternoon.  Please follow the blog and share this post via social media if you enjoy my posts and freebies.  Also be sure to check out the Copper Blossom Pinterest board and facebook page. You will find the links to all of my pages to the right of this blog post.  Take care everyone.  ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤

Contest Hosted By DecoArt Mixed Media Blog!

Hello everyone!  I first want to start out by thanking all of you for taking the time to read my blog. I do try to post a variety of projects and digital freebies to my blog when I can.  For some reason, I have had so much emotional turmoil this week that I haven't posted a lot to the blog. As much as I try to post to this blog on a daily basis, there are just some days when I just can't do it.  Yesterday, I started to write a blog post and broke down in tears.  Its not that I'm going through PMS or anything, I have just been sensitive to the energies around me lately.  I personally feel like I am in a pressure cooker with all the stress I've had to deal with lately.  Mixing the stress of everything I've been through lately with yesterdays wonky energy made me lose it!  At that point, I had to step back, stop what I was doing, and clear my mind.

Besides the weird mood swings and over worrying I've been doing lately, things seem to be going well in my life.  I am set to return to work in two weeks if my mobility continues to improve.  After five long months of healing, I am finally able to walk a little unassisted.  Yesterday I totally forgot to grab the crutches and found myself walking around the living room like a pro!  I am not up for walking a few miles or anything, but I am finally able to walk again!  I also started creating a winter themed digital scrapbook kit and have been working on a couple new oracle cards.

Before I talk about the contest hosted by DecoArt, I want to talk about the recent My Memories Suite giveaway that ended at midnight last night. I checked my gleam account this morning to see who the winner was, but to my surprise, the gleam website said that there were zero contest entries. I am not sure if there was an error with the gleam app or if no one actually entered.  I apologize to anyone who may have entered the giveaway.  I will do another My Memories Suite giveaway in the future, but will try a different approach.

I did want to announce the new Mixed Media Haunts challenge hosted by DecoArt Media. This contest involves creating your very own spooktacular mixed media art piece and submitting it  through the Inlinkz link on the DecoArt Blog.  Here is the link to the page - DecoArt Blog Contest Page.  Entries will be accepted until October 28th at 11:55pm.  On October 29th, Andy Skinner (a fabulous mixed media artist) will choose his two favorite pieces. The runner-up will receive $50 worth of DecoArt Media product and the grand prize winner will receive $100 worth of DecoArt Media goodies! I don't know about you, but I could definitely use some new acrylic paint. I am mentioning this contest because I will be entering this challenge and hope many of you will enter it too! I will post my mixed media Halloween piece on the blog with a tutorial when it is complete!

Hope this inspires you to create a spooktacular piece of art!  Thanks for stopping by.    ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤

Tattered Halloween - Digital Pocket Cards in Etsy Shop!

Hello lovelies! I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend.  I apologize for not posting yesterday, but I ended up spending the entire day and evening in the hospital with my boyfriend. He is still in the hospital and his condition is not improving.  Right now, his GI doctor is looking for a surgeon who specializes in pancreatic reconstruction.  Apparently, there are not many surgeons who specialize in correcting pancreatic defects. Without surgery, my boyfriend will require IV nutrition via a PICC line for the rest of his life. If he does have the surgery, he faces constant stint replacements and surgical upkeep every few months.  Since his hospitalization last Tuesday, my boyfriend has gained 13 pounds! He is doing better, but still in constant pain and unable to eat anything by mouth. Hoping to hear some good news from his doctor tomorrow.  My fingers are crossed!

I did finish the Tattered Halloween digital project life card kit tonight.  It coordinates perfectly with the paper pack and digital scrapbook kit that was already released. The pocket card kit contains 18 Halloween themed journal cards.  This kit is available for purchase in my Etsy shop HERE.  I did just reduce the prices of all the kits in my shop since I haven't had a whole lot of sales yet.  All of the digital scrapbook kits are $3.00, paper packs are $1.75, project life pocket card kits are $2.00, and all add on kits will be $1.00.  Remember to use the blog exclusive promo code september20 during checkout to save an additional 20% off your Copper Blossom Paperie purchase.  This promotion ends September 30th!  Also, if you do purchase anything from my Etsy store, please be sure to leave feedback!

Before I log off the blog, I did want to mention an idea I had about a possible weekly post. As you know, I am spiritual in a non-traditional sense.  I personally use oracle cards and tarot cards to guide me when making decisions or facing hardships in my life.  I have been reading tarot cards for over 15 years and love giving readings to others.  I was thinking that I might post a free weekly intuitive reading on Sundays for my blog readers. The way the reading would work is you will have to pick an image, number, or idea from a list I will have posted.  There will be a specific spiritual message that will coincide with each item on the list.  I like intuitive readings over zodiac based readings because our zodiac sign is made up of more than just our sun sign.  For example... I am a Pisces because I was born in March.  This is considered my sun sign.  If you were to look at my birth chart, you would see that 4 planets and the moon were in the constellation Virgo when I was born. Although I am a Pisces, I am also very influenced by the sign Virgo.  I find that readings are much more accurate and fun when you chose the message you are meant to receive.  Like I said, this is just an idea for a possible weekly blog post.  If you would like to see me post a weekly intuitive card reading, please comment below so I know.  I will not invest time into a weekly reading if no one is interested in reading it.  If there is a ton of demand, I will do free weekly readings on the blog and will start offering private tarot card readings through the Etsy Shop.

I hope all of you have a great week this week.  Please comment below if you would like me to provide a free weekly reading every Sunday on the blog. You can also leave suggestions for future blog posts.  Remember to like the Copper Blossom Paperie facebook page and share this post on social media. Thanks for stopping by!

Tattered Halloween - Digital Scrapbook Kit Now Available in Etsy Shop

It is nice to be back home after a long weekend out of town.  This weekend has been a rough one for me.  I attended my brother's funeral on Saturday and ended up spending quite a bit of time with my extended family who I personally haven't seen in over ten years.  Normally, spending quality time with family and friends is relaxing, but this reunion was extremely emotional.  I learned a lot about my father who passed when I was a teenager, as well as the secrets he kept from my family.  There was a lot of irony in saying goodbye to my brother, but then meeting my older sister for the very first time.  I do feel blessed to finally have some closer in my life.  It is unfortunate that this newly gained understanding of my family history came too late for my brother.

I did have an epiphany while at my brother's funeral.  I find that life really does work in mysterious ways.  I discovered that in my father's attempt to keep his past a secret, he kept us from his family as much as possible.  The kicker?  I was born with a clubfoot and had to travel to Shriner's hospital as a child for multiple surgeries and appointments.  If it weren't for having a clubfoot and having to travel to the hospital often (which just so happened to be in the same city where my dad's family lived), I never would have gotten to meet his family.  There is another part to this epiphany.  If I wouldn't have had my triple ankle fusion surgery earlier this year, I never would have taken the time to locate my extended family and I wouldn't have known about my brother's death.  I have always despised my clubfoot and all the pain it has brought to my life.  I now realize that my clubfoot may have existed to serve an entirely different purpose. I no longer have to ask "Why me?".  I now know that my clubfoot serves as a means to keep our family connected.  Things really do happen for a reason... even something as awful as a funeral or a crippling birth defect.

With all of that being said, I do want to move forward and talk about the new Halloween digital scrapbook kit now available in my Etsy store.  The new Tattered Halloween scrapbook kit contains 20 papers, 24 embellishments, and 52 alpha. This kit is inspired by traditional Halloween imagery and features grunge prints, creepy bats, unlucky black cats, and even a spooktacular haunted house. The digital kit is great for scrapbook pages, journaling, seasonal crafts, and card making.  If you are interested in purchasing this kit or seeing the other items available in my Etsy shop, please click HERE.  This digital scrapbook kit is $4.00, but will cost you $3.20 when you use the promo code september20 at checkout.  This blog exclusive discount code is good for 20% off your entire purchase from Copper Blossom Paperie.  This blog sale will expire on September 30th!

Remember, you can also purchase the Tattered Halloween paper pack on my Etsy store.  The paper pack contains the same 20 papers that the full digital scrapbook kit has, but does not have all the embellishments or alpha. The paper pack is $2.75, but will cost you $2.20 when you use the 20% off coupon code september20 at checkout.

Thanks for stopping by the blog.  I hope all of you have a wonderful week.  Thanks for stopping by. ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤

Tattered Halloween Digital Paper Pack Release!

Hello creative peeps!  I hope everyone is having a splendid Friday evening.  If you are at home reading my blog, I hope that you are comfortable and relaxed for the night.  I am a pisces, so I prefer chilling out at home on a Friday night instead of going out on the town... just my personal preference.  I am currently bundled up under the blankets on my bed getting ready for some late night movie action.  The only dilemma I plan to worry about tonight is whether I should watch chic flicks or have a horror movie marathon?  Decisions, decisions.

I just wanted to quickly announce that my brand new Tattered Halloween paper pack is available at my Etsy shop.  I absolutely LOVE the way this kit is turning out so far. The paper pack is inspired by traditional Halloween imagery and features grunge prints, creepy word art, unlucky black cats, and spooktacular bats.  I also added glitter elements to the papers and embellishments to really make them scream! These papers are great for scrapbook pages, journaling, seasonal crafts, and card making.  The kit includes 3 zip files containing 20 digital papers.  This kit is $2.75 and is available for purchase HERE.  Remember, there is a 20% off promo code for my blog readers.  Simply use the code september20 during checkout, and 20% will be taken off everything you purchase from my Etsy shop.  This particular kit is only $2.20 when you use the promo code.  This promotion does expire at the end of the month. All digital files purchased will be sent to your e-mail directly from Etsy when your payment clears.  If you have any problems downloading any of the digital files, please contact me at copperblossompapergallery@gmail.com and I will help you with the zip files or even send the files to you directly.

I will be releasing the full Tattered Halloween digital scrapbook kit and set of pockets cards next week!  Make sure to keep your eyeball peeled for those releases.  I am debating whether or not to sell quick pages and clusters.  I know a lot of people prefer to have most of the designing work done for them, so I may end up creating those kits as well. If there are any digital kits or themes you would like me to create, please comment below!  I am definitely open to suggestions.  As of right now, I have two sets of themed kits I plan to work on after I release the Tattered Halloween digital kits.  The first kits feature a shabby Cotton Candy Quilt theme with lots of pinks, purples, and blues.  The second set of digital kits will be Christmas themed.

As always, I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend! Remember to enter the free My Memories Suite giveaway on this blog.  You can enter by clicking the COMPETITION button to the right of this blog post.  If you enjoy reading this blog, be sure to share this post on google+ and social media.  You can also like our facebook page and follow my pinterest board.  Until next time, stay classy blog world!   ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤

Happy Halloween Card Freebie!

Happy Thursday Everyone!  I hope you are all having a great night.  I am trying to enjoy my evening, but life has me stressed to the max! Due to my surgery and medical expenses, money has been super tight around here for the last 5 months.  I really miss going to work and having a steady income.  I know, I know. I shouldn't be wishing myself back to work so fast.  I think part of the reason I am so stressed is that I am stuck in the house the majority of the time.  I don't drive, and walking with crutches everywhere just plain sucks (although it is better than cruising around on a knee scooter).  If my armpits feel up to it, I may visit the library or store tomorrow.

Despite being stressed out and a bit melancholy today, I did make some progress on the Halloween digital scrapbook kit and Project Life cards I've been working on.  I love Halloween, and I couldn't wait to start creating these digital kits.  The freebie card I am sharing with you today was created with the My Memories Suite Software.  The witch and black background paper are included in the software.  The moon and orange background paper were designed by me and are part of the Halloween scrapbook kit I am creating.  The spider web and Happy Halloween sign are digital scrapbook embellishments I had acquired a couple years ago.

This image can be printed out and adhered to a blank card or printed directly onto cardstock. The card image should be formatted to roughly 4"x6". This image can also be used for Halloween party invites, seasonal decor, or embellishing a scrapbook page. To download, simply left click on the image to view in a new window, then right click on the design and select save image as.  You will be able to save the image to your computer to use whenever you like. This card design is for personal use only.

I hope all of you have a fantastic Friday tomorrow.  Please follow the blog and share this post via social media if you enjoy my posts and freebies.  Also, check out my Etsy store and facebook page.  You will find links to my pages to the right of this blog post.  Take care everyone.  ❤ Tia - Copper Blossom Paperie ❤
