Firstly, I want to mention that Windows 10 did not affect the download or performance of the software. I know on the website it recommends using Windows 7 or 8, but it does work with Windows 10 on my PC. As I mentioned previously, Microsoft offered me a free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7, so I took it. I realize that Windows 10 is still new and is not compatible with certain computers, software, or video cards. My boyfriend has a newer computer that runs Windows 8, but his computer was not compatible for an upgrade. I did just want to mention that it did not affect the performance of the My Memories Suite software on my PC. Every computer is different though, so what worked for me might not necessarily work for you.
The software itself is fairly easy to use. If you are used to using Photoshop, Pixlr, or any other software, you will find that this program is a bit easier to navigate. Keep in mind that this software is definitely targeted towards scrapbookers and digital card makers. Since I am used to photoshop, this software felt a little awkward to me at first. It did not take long for me to get the hang of using this program, but it is very different from using photoshop or pixlr. Here are the pros and cons I have found when using this software.
1. This Software is definitely fun to use!
2. I was able to make digital scrapbook pages in minutes using this software. (I loved the layout feature of this program.... it makes digital scrapbooking a breeze!)
3. This software is easy to navigate.
4. The company has a ton of easy to follow help videos on youtube if you get stuck.
5. This software is great for all kinds of digital art projects, not just digital scrapbooking. This software is great for creating Project Life pages, blog banners, facebook cover photos, calendars, printable cards, seasonal decor, and invitations.
6. I found that many of the "complicated" features in other photo editing software has been simplified in this program. Adding shadows, changing the color of an embellishment, or creating word art is literally a click away.
7. You can easily access multiple photos and images from your computer to use in your projects. This software allows you to have an entire folder of images open in the program as you are creating your scrapbook page. You just click the photo you want to add and drag it to your project. You can also add previously downloaded digital scrapbook papers and embellishments to your projects.
8. There are a ton of scrapbook page layouts, embellishments, and finished page designs included in the software free. My Memories also offers additional digital scrapbook layouts and project templates in their store if you are interested in purchasing them.
9. All projects can be saved to your computer via a My Memories album folder or can be printed when finished. (I have tried other digital scrapbooking software that does not allow you to save projects to your PC or print them out.)
10. Once the software is installed, you do not need to be connected to the internet to use the software. (Programs like Pixlr are web apps that require an internet connection to use).
11. The software and content can be used to create commercially sold items and business advertisements.
12. My Memories has a "life time of use - guarantee" on their software and personalized items.
13. Although the software is not free, it is considerably cheaper than a lot of the photo editing software on the market today. ($29.99 when you use the promotion code STMMMS48741).
The Cons:
1. I do not recommend this software for advanced photo altering. Photoshop is much better when it comes to applying photo filters, adding light sources, or combining multiple photos together. This software does have a decent amount of editing tools for minimal photo editing.
2. All images and projects are saved to a My Memories album folder. I like the idea of having your scrapbook pages in an album folder, but when it comes to greetings cards or tags, I like to have those items saved to a specific folder on my PC. The album folders are a little tricky to find if you are trying to open an image in another program... but it is possible with some work. (Once the image has been opened in another program, it can be saved to any folder or USB drive).
3. Some .png images (any digital scrapbook embellishment or sentiment with a clear background) are not compatible with the software and appear to have a black background.
Overall, I do love the program and will continue using it to create scrapbook pages and printable cards. This software makes simple work out of digital scrapbooking and I feel like I can get a lot of work done in no time at all. I had a lot of fun trying the My Memories Suite software and can't wait to complete an entire scrapbook. If you have a ton of digital photos and are interested in digital scrapbooking, you really should get this program. What good are your photos if they are stuck on a memory card or USB drive?
